I was looking for a quality cable with male to male 3.5mm(1/8") connectors. I need this cable for connecting an external mic to my DSLR during video recording or connecting an audio device(mp3 player, portable cd player, etc) to a variety of systems; one of which is my car. I wanted a properly shielded cable with relatively heavy gauge OFC(oxygen-free copper) conductors. There are many audio cables for sale on Amazon, but very few manufacturers advertise the raw materials inside their fancy exterior. Some will say theirs is shielded. Others say they use OFC conductors. Almost none advertise the gauge specification of their conductors. ProX was one of the very few manufacturers who clearly stated they use 20AWG OFC conductors with braided 93% OFC shielding. While other big-name cable manufacturers are charging far north of $20 for a similar length(and mystery conductors), these are very competitively priced at $13.49+free shipping. For comparison, I also own a Griffin Technology 6ft aux cable, currently priced at $23.97
The Griffin cable seems well made and has held up well. Thus far, I have had no problems with it (mostly home use). However, contrary to my expectation, in a side by side audio comparison, the difference is noticeable. The ProX cable seems to add clarity to the treble and deepness to the bass. The instruments sound more natural overall. Of course, this is my personal opinion, and someone else may prefer the Griffin cable. However, to my ears (a professional musician with 20+ years of experience), the ProX sounds better. The construction of the ProX is also very solid. I had no qualms with the quality of the Griffin cable(at least in my mild usage), but these are better. My only criticism is the length. At 5ft, it is adequate most of the time; but, occasionally, I find myself wishing for one or two more feet. The only available length on Amazon is 5ft (the manufacturer site says they make a 10ft version, but I cannot find this). This, however, is a very minor shortcoming; one that I can live with. Bottom line, I highly recommend this cable. Here on Amazon, they are probably the best of their kind(at least in their price range). In fact, I liked it so much, I ordered two more (one to leave in my car, the other as a back up).submit a testimonial
